oil on canvas
Part of the Self Absolved series is an obvious reference to its namesake “Lolita” - "having cast young girls to reenact moments from my youth and also play myself in paintings about youth, femininity and coming of age." The over genderization and sexualization of youth can play a huge part in the way young girls and boys form their identities. Our relationship to popular culture, and media can do the same thing. Collecting in our minds references an road maps to ourselves: movies, books, artists we like... somehow they say something about who we are, defining our tastes, and perhaps something more.
